This syndrome leads to malabsorption and malnutrition and may be the result of bowel resection surgery or may be a malformation. The surgical techniques that are performed involve lengthening the intestine, which allows a lengthening of the intestinal transit time by increasing the contact time of nutrients with the walls of the intestine and thus absorption.
